"Mr Tai has been my physics teacher from 2018-2020, when I was in Secondary 2 to 4. He has been a really inspiring, dedicated and caring physics teacher. "I took triple science for ‘O’ levels and the learning curve was very steep. My schedule was packed and I am grateful for Mr Tai’s guidance in secondary 4. He is a very passionate physics teacher. With his prior experience in the engineering sector, he would even relate the physics concepts to real world engineering problems, fueling my excitement for physics. With his patience and guidance, I eventually achieved A1 for ‘O’ level physics! Mr Tai gave us such a strong foundation which continued to be useful when I took A level H2 Physics. I compared the O and A level syllabi and realised that I was already taught on quite a few of the physics concepts required for A levels before I entered JC, making physics the most chill subject I took for A levels. "Mr Tien was my secondary school Chemistry teacher. I feel that through his lessons, I had a stronger foundation and could grasp the concepts better. His verbal quizzes and rewards system (eg. classmates who scored full marks for a quiz could get a 'sword' or 'medal') was definitely a creative way to spur all of us to always revise our chemistry concepts. "Mr Tien was our Chemistry teacher during upper secondary school years, helping our class to achieve a 100% distinction rate! Since Sec 3, he has been preparing us at the O level standard, using spaced repetition and active recall techniques in daily classes. Mr Tien goes out of his way to prepare a customised set of materials, clarifying key concepts and keywords geared towards answering Chemistry questions. Even after many years, I can still to this day remember the keywords to answering O level questions (evidence of how well-trained we are)! "Mr Tien was my Form Teacher, and Chemistry teacher when I was in Secondary 3 and 4. Chemistry was not my strong subject. He put in many hours after school to run lab and remedial lessons with us. It was well known back then in school that Mr Tien’s set of Chemistry Notes were the best guides to getting As for O levels. He made concepts easier to understand and was able to adapt to our needs as some of us were more visual, some more kinaesthetic learners. I managed to get my As and scored well enough to go to a JC but chose to pursue my passion in nursing school.

Today, I am a senior staff nurse at a tertiary hospital. My focus is now on innovation and research. Through my nursing career, many a time I recall my days in Mr Tien’s class and his funny acronyms to help us remember concepts, especially when going through my patient’s blood works, understanding the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of medications, or learning the pathophysiology of certain diseases and electrolyte imbalances.

"Back in 1998, Mr Tien was my chemistry teacher and NPCC teacher-officer. I was one of the students who did below average in the whole cohort. Mr Tien never gave up on me and my classmates. Instead, he did his best to understand our problems. He taught us patiently and fine-tuned our thinking processes. Checked on our progress regularly and ensured we had positive outcomes in our learning and results. He used this 4Ps approach to ensure that we do well not just academically but also in our lives too.

Fast forward 23 years later, a lot of my juniors from NPCC and I are still keeping in touch with Mr Tien regularly. He's someone who has impacted us positively. "Mr Tien Chee Wai is an exceptionally dedicated Science teacher whose expertise and passion lie in Chemistry.
