Mr Tien is an inspiring teacher with more than two decades of teaching experience. Having taught in a SAP school for so many years, he is extremely familiar with the Chemistry syllabus. His completion of the past three markers' courses conducted by the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate has allowed him to know exactly what is required to get the desired A1 for O level. Students taught by him continuously score outstanding results.
Mr Tien is also very experienced in teaching practical skills required for the GCE "O" level examination. Over the years, he has taught students who need to take the traditional type of practical exams, the school-based Science Practical Assessment (SPA), as well as the current end-of-course type of practical aspects which constitutes 20% of the examinations.
In addition, Mr Tien has an excellent rapport with his students as shown by the numerous testimonials written by them, many of whom have done extremely well for Chemistry. An outstanding, committed and effective teacher that has won numerous awards.
Mr Tai has taught Physics for 11 years at Nan Chiau High School and held the appointment as Subject Head of Physics for 5 years before he decided to move on to the next phase of his career at the end of 2021.
Prior to his transition to becoming a teacher, Mr Tai worked as a Chief Engineer in a manufacturing company for more than a decade. In his teaching career, he is well-versed in teaching GCE "O" level Physics (Syllabus 5058, 5059, 6091) and Science (Physics) (Syllabus 5116 and 5076). He explains concepts patiently and provides relevant examples drawn from his diverse experience as a mechanical and production engineer so that students can relate to real-world scenarios. Through this, students are able to develop the skills necessary to deal with higher-order questions and build a solid foundation. He is more than happy to answer any questions that students might have after classes or to revisit any questions they may have if they remain uncertain.
Mr Tai strongly believes that all students are able to make progress in the learning of Science. They will also learn more effectively if they are passionate about the subject. This is particularly true when it comes to Physics. Students with a sound conceptual understanding will be able to approach questions from different angles so that they may connect the dots and appreciate the various topics in relation to everyday life. Approaching the higher-order question from different angles also improves critical thinking skills and extend reasoning to link different parts of a complex question. This ensures their progress and strengthens their ability to make sense of the different concepts across topics in a meaningful manner.
