Student-oriented and passion-driven, his teaching philosophy integrates academic rigour with a practical, applications-based approach that is extremely effective in helping students understand and master relevant Physics concepts. Rather than rote learning and memorisation of formulae, he builds a culture of critical and analytical thinking by guiding students to break down complex concepts step by step, draw parallels between different questions types and connect the dots. As a veteran teacher, he is very clear about his objectives for the lessons and is quick to address any misconceptions and clarify any doubts that students may have. He personifies a deep commitment to teaching and always believes in his students, working with them along the way to motivate, challenge and empower them to realise their full potential.

It is often said that education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. Mr Tai has not only ignited my passion for Physics that will certainly burn bright and long, but also inspired me to delve deeper into the subject. Under his guidance, I have been transformed from a clumsy learner who initially saw Physics as foreign and daunting, into a confident thinker and an independent problem-solver. From being the bane of my life, Physics has become my favourite subject, as I have begun to enjoy the learning process and appreciate the beauty of solving Physics problems. If it were not for his guidance, I would not have been able to consistently score high A1s for Physics throughout my secondary school years and eventually made it to my dream JC with 10 A1s in my O Levels. Now looking back as a JC student, I realise that what he taught me has truly laid a solid foundation for my Physics and paved the way for my smooth transition to A level Physics. And I am absolutely grateful for that. As a Chinese saying goes, ‘Giving one a fish cannot compare with teaching him one how to fish.’ I have always counted myself fortunate to be his student, for I have learned not only Physics knowledge but also the right attitudes and approaches towards Physics."

"Mr Tien has helped me with my Chemistry greatly when I was in Secondary 4. He is a devoted and caring teacher who has made Chemistry such an interesting subject for me. With his clear and concise teaching, I am not only able to master Chemistry concepts, but also gain a deeper understanding of Chemistry as a subject, which has played a big role in sustaining my good grades for Chemistry. Mr Tien is able to explain complex chemistry concepts in a simple yet memorable way with his step-by-step approach, allowing me to grasp these concepts easily. Mr Tien also makes the effort to summarise our weaker topics occasionally, imparting many answering techniques to us which are backed by his years of experience. I am grateful to Mr Tien for helping me to improve and maintain my consistent ‘A1’ grade and for making Chemistry a subject that I love. Thanks to Mr Tien's guidance, I also managed to score an A1 for Chemistry in my GCE O levels!"
